Based on my research and documentary, I've found that visually impaired individuals tend to have heightened auditory sensitivity and pay more attention to sound sources outside their visual field. Therefore, in Sky Lake, I've designed two types of sound: in Jasper's sighted state, the engine will use 2D sound, in which effects and voiceovers play on the same plane without any special processing. In Jasper's visually impaired state, the engine will use 3D sound. I designed immersive 3D audio surrounding Jasper from all directions, and adjusted the volume attenuation based on realistic hearing conditions, taking into account angle and distance.
The auditory information, as a supplementary sensory input to visual information, enhances the immersive experience and further differentiates the experience of the sighted and visually impaired worlds, thereby supporting the theme.
